The fastest growing faculties in University and TAFE are Mechatronics and Automation. At Sevenoaks Senior College we are currently moving from Mechanical Engineering to Mechatronics Engineering, preparing students for the new or unknown workforce. This involves preparing students in Mechanical, Electronics and Programming (Coding) in one subject.
The Engineering Automation/Mechatronics Pathway is delivered and assessed at Sevenoaks in our new STEM centre. Projects will lead the way in preparing students for the new digital revolution and for the future workforce that is needed.
This may involve using automated manufacturing 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC plasma cutter, CNC router, drones and robotic arms.
This pathway is one of your first steps toward your chosen career in the Engineering industry, in which you may progress to:
- higher level qualifications at university or TAFE, and/or
- heavy duty automotive apprenticeships, CNC programming and operating, trainee mechanical draftsmen (solidworks) and STEM related fields.
In Year 11 and 12, students will enrol in:
- 22632VIC Certificate II in Engineering Studies^ over two years,
- Engineering Studies (General),
- an English and a Mathematics course,
- Workplace Learning (ADWPL), and
- one other course or a certificate of their choosing.
^ During 2026, students are enrolled with Australian Institute of Education and Training RTO code: 121314 through a Third-Party Agreement between the RTO and Sevenoaks Senior College.
