The Technical Education for Communities (TEC) Consortium at Sevenoaks Senior College was established in 2017 with the support of Cummins South Pacific, ‘one of only 26 programs around the world’. This impressive consortium provides Sevenoaks students with quality work experience and a pathway to apprenticeships and employment. Sevenoaks Senior College is currently the only public school to host such a partnership.
The College and partners have worked collaboratively to:
- engage student interest and exploration of potential careers within the Automotive and Engineering industries,
- develop students’ technical and soft skills, attitude and work ethic to the standards required by our partner companies, and
- expose students to the partner organisations as potential employers.
The TEC Consortium partners include:
- AHG companies

- Utilities Engineering Electrical and Automotive Training Council
- Westrans
Industry partners have:
- accepted and supported students for Workplace Learning
- provided student tours of their facilities
- delivered employer and apprentice presentations to students
- provided teacher tours to enhance teachers understanding of current industry standards, engaging teachers across learning areas to provide real life contexts for their teaching and training programs
- provided teacher placement in partner organisations
- provided teachers access to partners’ training programs to enhance teachers’ industry currency
- provided real life projects for students to participate in, such as building the outdoor lunch tables and benches
- provided access to the Passport to Success soft skills training program for all Sevenoaks students
- donated equipment and vehicles to enhance students’ training experiences.
“Komatsu has been engaged as an Industry Partner with Sevenoaks Senior College for over 7 years offering opportunities to their students to do work experience in our workshops to assist them in what it is like to be part of a workplace and also upskill them to be able to apply and be successful in an apprenticeship either with us or other businesses.
Komatsu has been lucky enough to have taken on quite a few students as apprentices in either Auto Electrical, Electrical or Mechanical over the years with them progressing to become trades persons within our business.
