Pathways to your Future

Our motto at Sevenoaks is Find Your Future. We understand that this may be an overwhelming yet exciting time for students. That is why we have developed an excellent career pathway program to support all students to plan their future.

Our pathways are purposeful, engaging and motivating and above all, personalised so that each student can transition to their post school career with success.

Key features include:

  • enhanced pathway preparation and planning which incorporate 21st Century skills needed for future success
  • participation in our work integrated learning program to ensure all students have access to the world of work
  • participation in career education and work exploration activities which will support the development of a learner profile for each students’ future
  • participation in our acclaimed passport to success program as a part of your pathway planning with industry standard soft skills adding to future employability.

If you are not sure of the exact career you want to follow, start with the Career Quiz on the Your Career page. Your Career can help you make decisions about study and training, your first job, or the next step in your career.

Explore careers that interest you to learn about their future outlook, pay, main tasks, physical and other demands. Find out about the skills, knowledge and abilities you may need. Get ideas for careers you can aim for now or in the future. Follow links to job vacancies and related courses.

We also encourage you to check out MyFuture, a great online tool which provides resources to explore career pathways and tools to develop self-knowledge to help with career decision-making.

Take the time to explore your options and think about where you see yourself in the future. We will then arrange to meet with you to confirm the appropriate course selections for you to find your future!

Sevenoaks Senior College is committed to providing a Work Integrated Learning Model that empowers students to shape their own futures. We prepare our students for their future by participating in a range of learning environments which support the delivery of contemporary and emerging work capabilities to meet the current and future work environment.

Here’s how this model creates pathways to students’ futures:

  • Authentic Approach: The college recognises that education extends beyond classroom learning. The Work Integrated Learning Model integrates academic knowledge with practical experiences. It bridges the gap between theory and real-world application.
  • Personalised Pathways: Students have the flexibility to choose pathways that align with their interests and aspirations. Whether they’re passionate about engineering, automotive, health, sport, hospitality or other fields, Sevenoaks tailors opportunities to meet individual needs.
  • Industry Engagement: The model fosters strong connections with industry partners. Students engage in work placements, internships, and industry projects. These experiences provide firsthand exposure to their chosen fields and build valuable networks.
  • Skills Development: Through work-integrated learning, students develop essential skills such as problem-solving, communication, and teamwork. These competencies enhance employability and prepare them for successful careers.
  • Authentic Learning: By participating in areas they are passionate about, students gain a deeper understanding of their chosen pathways. Whether it’s designing a car engine or creating innovative solutions through our STEM pathways, Sevenoaks encourages exploration and creativity.

Sevenoaks Senior College’s Work Integrated Learning Model empowers students to actively shape their futures, equipping them with the skills and experiences needed to thrive in a dynamic world.

Our Work Integrated Learning Model ensures that all our students will undertake workplace learning so that they can explore their future career. As young adults, we want to ensure students have a seamless transition from school to future pathways with the necessary skills to drive their success.

Workplace Learning supports our students in developing employability skills whilst at the same time, gaining invaluable experience with the industry.

At Sevenoaks Senior College all students will participate in Workplace Learning as an important experience, exploring their career aspirations and to find your future:

  • University bound ATAR students will participate in 55 hours of Workplace Learning related to their future career pathways.
  • Big Picture students will participate in Workplace Learning as part of their Big Picture program.
  • Automotive and Engineering Pathway students will generally participate in placements for one or two week blocks at appropriate times during year 11 and 12.
  • All other students will participate in at least 55 hours of Workplace Learning related to their career exploration. While the preference is for students to complete the full 220 hours in placements to explore future career pathways, these students may apply to use their part-time work to complete the additional three units of Workplace Learning (165 hours).

“During my time at Sevenoaks my most memorable highlight was doing workplace learning. I got real world work exposure which helped me with fostering independence and boosting my confidence to tackle challenges beyond my comfort zone. Sevenoaks also helped me grow as a person and realise just how far I have come.”
