That’s a wrap for Term 3! We have been extremely busy, as is always the case at Sevenoaks, offering many opportunities for our students to engage with their learning.
We have been focussed this term on recruiting students for our 2026 Year 11 cohort. Prospective students have already attended our Open Day, whilst there will be other orientation activities which will happen in term four. We aim to ensure students gain a really thorough understanding of Sevenoaks, our learning environment and our expectations of students in a senior college.
For our Year 12 students, Term 3 is their last full term with us. The time does go by very quickly and I cannot believe we will be farewelling them next term at their presentation ceremony. At the moment, they are working very hard to complete all of their courses to ensure that they achieve the standards required for the next step in their journey toward 2026 and beyond.
Our Year 11 students are now well immersed in Sevenoaks and are making steady progress towards the end of the year. They also face commitments to ensure that they complete all of their courses and are ready for 2026. We are excited to provide our Year 11s with the opportunity to attend a river cruise in Term 4. This will be a wonderful addition to our College calendar and reward those students with excellent attendance, behaviour and attitude towards their learning.
We were proud to open our Aboriginal Cultural Learning Centre in week nine. After many conversations with our Aboriginal community, we came up with a wonderful Yarning Circle which will be the centrepiece of future cultural connections for all of our students. A big thank-you to Vice Principal Katie Edwards and our administration officer Caroline Griffiths who liaised with significant members of our Aboriginal community and Elders including: Kayleen Hayward (Teacher at Sevenoaks), our Elders in Residence, Mr and Mrs Eades, and their family members.
A particular highlight during Term 3 has been welcoming Year 6 students from nine different primary schools from across the Cannington-Maddington area. Students from each primary school joined us for half a day and were involved in a range of activities including nursing skills, visual arts, engineering, physical education and getting to know you activities. Whilst they are very young, we would look forward to welcoming them to Sevenoaks in 2030! Overall, it has been a wonderful experience for the nine primary schools who came along each week and spending a half day with us. We loved welcoming them to Sevenoaks.
