Follow the Dream

The Follow the Dream program is an inter-agency initiative managed by the Department of Education in collaboration with the Graham (Polly) Farmer Foundation and private industry sponsors such as BHP Billiton. The program specifically supports Aboriginal students with high aspirations as they find their future at Sevenoaks.

Students are selected for the program based on attendance, good grades, and positive attitudes toward their schooling.

The goal is to encourage students to complete Year 12 and achieve results that enable entrance into tertiary studies.

Support for students in the Follow the Dream program at Sevenoaks includes:

  • personalised support in areas such as academic acceleration and career and transition guidance.
  • access to tutors who assist with homework, assignments, study habits and goal setting.
  • a mentor who reviews their school progress and general well-being.
  • a safe, well-resourced study space.
  • guidance on career pathways.
  • regular contact with parents and teachers regarding progress.

“The Follow the Dream program enabled me to get the guidance and help I needed to get through my senior years and try to gain a pathway to find what I wanted to do in the future. Jennet helped me understand myself better and I had tutors when needed to help with upcoming assignments and exams. I don’t think I would have passed without the encouragement I had from being part of Follow the Dream.”
