Harmony Across Borders
Harmony Across Borders (HAB) was established in 2023 by students and staff at SSC. HAB’S mission is to inspire all SSC students to embrace their heritage, and to promote and improve understanding and communication across our diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds – Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal. We aim to create a world where differences are celebrated and diversity is embraced, leading to a more harmonious and equitable global community, by taking the first step at SSC. The committee meets once a week and elects a President and Secretary at the beginning of each calendar year. HAB is supported by a number of staff members, particularly our EAL/D teachers.
Back on the Rack
Back on the Rack is a student lead initiative which was created to support students and their families by providing access to affordable clothes, uniforms, textbooks, accessories, homewares and more. Thanks to the successful acquisition of the City of Canning Youth Grant, we were able to open up our very own Op Shop right here on campus, which is open to students and staff every Wednesday during Lunch. The Committee is responsible for:
- Marketing and branding of the space – creating marketing and promotional materials, decorations and signage.
- Sourcing, cleaning, sorting and displaying stock
- “Staffing” the shop during opening hours, with support of youth workers
- Running the Backontherack_SSC Instagram account including creating and posting marketing material, photos and videos
Q-mmunity
Q-mmunity is a vibrant and inclusive student club dedicated to supporting and celebrating LGBTQIA+ identities. Meeting once a week, Q-mmunity provides a safe and welcoming space for students to hang out, share experiences, and foster a sense of belonging. The club is actively involved in planning and organising events that enhance the visibility of the Queer community within our College. Notable events include Wear It Purple Day and Pride Month celebrations, which are widely supported by the school community. Through these initiatives, Q-mmunity plays a crucial role in promoting acceptance, understanding, and pride amongst all students.
Yearbook Committee
The Yearbook Committee is a group of Year 12 students who work alongside the Media and Communications Officer, Year Coordinator, and other volunteering staff, to put together the annual Sevenoaks Senior College Yearbook. The Committee meets weekly in Term 3 and is responsible for:
- The overall design, theme and vibe of the book including fonts and colours
- Titles for each section of the book
- Organising and taking photos
- Selecting which photos are included
- Collecting quotes and info from students
Ball Committee
Our Ball Committee is formed in Term 4 of the year prior to the Year 12 Ball. Year 11 students form the committee and meet in Term 4 to vote on the following year’s theme. Then as Year 12s, they meet monthly in Term 1, and fortnightly in Term 2 and are responsible for:
- Theme
- Decorations
- Table favours
- Music playlists
- Awards
- Advertising & Promotion (including poster and ticket design)
Leavers Jacket Committee
The Leavers Jacket Committee is a group of Year 11 students who meet monthly in Term 2 to coordinate the following year’s Leavers Jacket. This committee is responsible for:
- Researching suppliers
- Choosing jacket specifications such as reversible, hood, waterproof etc.
- Creating a range of designs to be voted on by the cohort
- Selecting fabrics and colours
- Advertising & Promotion
