FUSE 2025

🧬🌡️📈Science in action! Our first-ever FUSE Physical Sciences workshop brought 21 Year 10 students from Cannington Community College to Sevenoaks for a day they won’t forget. Ramp investigations, exothermic reactions, and “really very interesting and extreme” maths. These future scientists got hands-on with Year 11 ATAR Chemistry and Physics. The verdict? They are ready for the challenge!

Perhaps the most striking aspect of the workshop was the students’ teamwork. Working in small groups, they divided responsibilities among data recorders, timers, and experiment leaders. They cross-checked calculations, solved practical challenges together, and maintained respect for both their peers and the laboratory space. Time management became essential as groups coordinated setup and cleanup within set limits. This collaborative environment helped students develop scientific communication skills and model the CARE values in action.

This successful pilot workshop represents more than just a day of science education. It strengthens the partnership between Cannington Community College and Sevenoaks Senior College while creating a pathway for students to explore demanding STEM fields with confidence. Regular continuation of these workshops will build community knowledge and encourage more students, particularly young women, to pursue engineering and science pathways at university level.

Shout out to Mr Hosany for facilitating this wonderful opportunity for our two schools to collaborate.
