Girls Soccer Victory
Our combined Sevenoaks/Cannington Girls' soccer team recorded an emphatic 7-0 victory against Melville SHS yesterday.
The girls' determination and effort in winning the ball from the opposition was the main factor, which resulted in many scoring opportunities. Lauren Morphett and Jamie Cunningham were rock solid in defence, denying the best Melville player (who plays in the State league) any attempts on our goal.
The star of the team was Delilah Kaupa from CCC, scoring 4 goals and being a constant threat to the Melville goalkeeper. The other goal scorers were: Sunday Maliya (1) and Kathy Nguyen from CCC (1). The last goal was scored by the desperate (or dejected) Melville defender.
Well done to all the girls! |

This Week's Soccer Recap
The Boys "B" team unfortunately lost 2-1 to Mazenod's "A" team yesterday. It was a very entertaining and competitive game. Mazenod scored the first goal to which we replayed with a very cleaver goal by James Maliya. With 10 minutes to go Mazenod scored the winning goal. The crowd was on the edge of our seat when our team managed to scored the equalizing goal in the last minute. However, that goal was ruled out as off side by the assistant referee killed our premature celebration.
Good effort by all the boys.
The Girls team sadly lost 3-0 to Kelmscott SHS. Three simple errors in defence cost us the game. Despite an evenly contested game, our girls were unable to breech Kelmscott tough defence.

Exciting Games at the Volleyball Inter-school Carnival
This week the Sevenoak's Boys Volleyball Team competed in the inter-school tournament. Even though they weren't as successful as our girls' team they produced some outstanding results.
They had an early start to the tournament, playing Saint Marks I, one of the top teams in their first round. They quickly learnt the importance of being focussed and talking to each other on court. A series of unforced errors and soft balls over the net saw the boys lose their first game. As it panned out this was the most important game of the tournament. If we would have taken one of the sets we would have finished 3rd and if we would have won the game, which was quite possible without the unforced errors, we could have come 2nd, but as it stood we were 4th on the day.
Results of their other games were:
- Game 2 vs John Septimus - Won 2 Sets to 1
- Game 3 vs Ballajura – Won 3 Sets to 0
- Game 4 vs Greenwood - Lost 2 Sets to 0
- Game 5 vs Carine- Won 2 Sets to 0
- Game 6 vs Saint Marks 3- Won 2 Sets to 1
During the day the boys improved with every match, playing their best against the overall champions Greenwood. They kept the specialist volleyball school on their toes matching their ground skills and having some of the best rallies for the tournament. Sevenoaks made Greenwood earn every point blocking, covering spikes and getting their own power plays in.
Below is an overall summary of each of the player's performance on the day:
- Day Day Poe – Great strategist who excelled at blocking, retrieving balls and pinching points by putting the smart shot back into play.
- Ethan Ward – Blocking giant that become stronger with every match.
- Rudolph Sabalo – Always on guard and checking for options.
- Dut Tamin – Mr Enthusiastic, always bouncing around the court smiling and not letting anything bother him.
- Christian Solatorio – Captain for the day that grew in confidence with every game.
- Michael Skelton – Great on court skills with an awesome spike that was equal to any of the players. Voted most consistent.
- Jayden Caldwell – Must of eaten springs for breaky with the height that he was reaching in some of his blocks.
- Jeremiah Grese – Voted most valuable player for the day. Was nervous at first then became focused and hungry for every ball. Ended the tournament with excellent skills and showed great leadership qualities on court.
- Paul Bernado – The cool cat of the team that could dig any ball and set it up for great rallies.
